297th Flower Show Details

Dear HGS HortSoc Members,

The HGS HortSoc June Show is fast approaching, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing exhibits and join in the fun. Whether you’re exhibiting, volunteering, or just attending, here’s everything you need to know to get ready! 

Show Details:

  • Date of Show: Saturday, 13 June
  • Location: Free Church HallNorthway
  • HortSoc Flower Show Public Opening Hours: 3:00 – 5:00pm

Registration for the Show – Mark Your Calendar!

We’ll be holding the exhibitor registration event on 9 June from 7:00 – 8:00pm at Fellowship House. This is your chance to officially sign up to exhibit your fruit, vegetables, flowers, cooking and photographs for the HortSoc Show. 

  • New to Exhibiting? Don’t worry! Experienced members will be on hand to guide you through the process and make sure everything goes smoothly.
  • And to help you relax, we’ll have a glass of wine ready to enjoy while you get signed up!
  • If you would like to submit your entry form online, please complete the attached spreadsheet, save and email back to shows@hortsoc.co.uk.  Don’t forget to include your personal details on the form.

Potato ‘weigh-in’ at the RA Summer Fair 12- 5pm Sunday 7th June

For the members who have joined this competition, please bring your complete bags for weighing at the HortSoc stand at the RA Summer Show,  Central Square, on Sunday 7 June, 12:00 – 5:00pm

The prizes for juniors and adults for the Heaviest Crop, Heaviest Single Potato and Oddest Shape Potato will be announced on Show day 13 June.


Show Day 13 June:

If you’re planning to exhibit, here’s what you need to know:

  1. Show-Day Exhibitor Setup:
  2. Exhibitors are invited to bring their entries on 13 June between 09:00 – 11:00 am at Free Church Hall on Northway.
  3. Please collect any necessary display items e.g. vases which, unless specified in the show handbook, are supplied by HortSoc, for your exhibit and then proceed to the show area to display your items in their appropriate class.
  1. For new exhibitors, it can feel a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry – there will be plenty of people available to help you get set up and make the process go as smoothly as possible.

  3. Get the kids involved! We have several fun junior classes to enter and a collage of a Robin using plant and non-plant material to make. The image can be found on HGS website (https://hortsoc.co.uk/june-show-297th-flower-show/)
  1. Judging:
    • Judging will take place between 11:30am – 2:00pm Be sure your exhibits are in place before 11:00am!
    • Don’t forget that the potato judging will have been completed by Saturday 7 June in Central Square
  2. Exhibit Viewing by the Public:
    • Exhibits will be open for viewing to the public from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. This is the perfect time to showcase your hard work and interact with visitors.
    • After the public viewing, you can collect your exhibits from 5:00 – 5:45pm.
  3. PotatoCompetition Prizing Giving:
    • Prizes for juniors and adults will be awarded for Heaviest Crop, Heaviest Single Potato and Oddest Shape Potato
    • Prizing giving will be at 4:30pm

Famous Teas & Homemade Cakes – Don’t Miss Out!

Look out for our famous teas and homemade cakes, available in the Free Church Hall from 3:00 – 5:00pm. After viewing the exhibits, come relax and enjoy a delightful treat while mingling with fellow gardening enthusiasts

We would welcome any baked goods that you can bring on the day.

Gardening Help Desk – Bring Your Plant Questions!

There will be a Gardening Help Desk for all plant-related questions! Whether you’re struggling with a pest problem, need advice on plant care, or just have a general gardening question, our experienced members will be on hand to provide answers and tips. 

So, if you have any gardening-related questions, bring them along! This is a great opportunity to get advice from experts in the field. 

Exciting Raffle – Win Fantastic Gardening Prizes!

We’ll be holding a raffle with lots of wonderful gardening-related prizes, so make sure to bring some cash or a card for tickets, as you won’t want to miss your chance to win these fantastic prizes!  

1 ticket for £1, 10 for £5. 

All prizes will be drawn at 4:45pm, so please stay  around and see if you are a lucky winner.

Volunteers Needed:

We’re always looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of the show. If you’re interested in lending a hand, we’d love to have your support in the following areas:

  • Exhibit Registration: Help with writing up the exhibitor entry cards on Tuesday 9 June for a couple of hours – wine provided!
  • Show-Day Volunteers: Assist with registration, guiding guests, and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
